This view shows the two-board design of the adapter. The FT-245 and the two 7400 series ICs are on the top board while the bottom card holds the fabricated 40-pin connector. The spacers screwed firmly in place provide the regidity needed to insert the connector into the 40-pin socket on the serial card. This design allowed ease of construction and makes it a simple matter to insert the adapter into position without interfering with, or being interferred with by, existing parts on the host card.
