The two prototypes shown together. While the version that plugs into 8250 slot is excellent for proof-of-concept and for developoment, it may prove to be costly to duplicate, it terms of time and effort. It is reliable and very useful, but probably should not be removed and re-inserted into the 8250 socket very many times. To do so may loosen the socket sufficiently to cause intermittent operation. The author's attempt at a alternative solution involving a different construction that still plugged into the 8250 socket met with intermittent operation from the beginning. The development of a well designed PC board to replace the Heath card is probably the best solution.
