System Configuration

Whether using your existing system or a newly acquired and provisioned server or virtual private server, I will work with you to install a operating system or to install the needed utilities in order to properly and efficiently handle your database needs.

There are numerous utilities available to help with database tasks, many of which come with most Linux or Unix distributions. For example, when transfering files from a Windows environment to Linux, it is good to remove the unnecessary carriage returns (hex 0x0D) present in many such files. The 'dos2unix' utility is very useful for this task. There are others as well as some scripting languages that facilitate data conversion and preparation for database loading.

I have used Slackware Linux for a couple of decades but am now, focusing primarily on CentOS for database functions. I can also work with Debian and, given a little research, most any flavor of Linux.
